EdPerformance Information for Spring Administration 2008 revised 2/19/08
As a part of ensuring that all students at Golden Valley Charter School are making appropriate progress in their learning and as a tool for evaluating the quality of our personalized learning approach to education, we will be continuing our commitment to having all students complete a fall and spring assessment of their language arts, reading and mathematics skills.
Ed Performance, an Internet-based and adaptive software program, is our assessment platform for student testing. Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics are the three areas in which students will complete assessments. Please note that these assessment are adaptive, meaning that they will adjust to your student’s level of understanding and knowledge, rather than following strictly grade-level specific material. If the first few questions seem too difficult (or easy) for your student, the software will adjust to his or her level of performance and thereby produce a clearer picture of your student’s strengths as well as areas for growth and improvement.
Each subject area assessment will take approximately thirty (30) minutes, but are completely un-timed. Please keep this in mind when planning an undisturbed time period for your student to complete each section. You may choose to have your student complete all three subject tests on the same day, or you may opt to have your student complete each subject test on separate days.
The testing window for the spring administration is: March 1-March 31. During that period, all students in grades 2 through 11 must complete the three subject specific assessments. Your Education Specialist will be providing you with an easy-to-follow proctoring outline for logging onto the testing website and preparing your student for the assessment session.
Here are some important tips to ensure that your student’s testing results are as accurate as possible: Be sure your student can test in a quiet, undisturbed area without other family members, pets or other distractions such as television, telephone, radio, etc… for at least 30 – 45 minutes. The following types of interactions will not help the student and should be avoided during the test: · Reminding them of the time · Helping students with words or problems that are too difficult for them · Talking with other adults who may enter the room · Suggesting test-taking techniques · Reading any part of reading passages to the student · Helping students narrow their answer choices · Providing any help with reading passages or question content or meaning · Allowing students who have finished the test to stay in the room, wander around, and/or talk with others that have finished · Hovering over the students as they are tested, or using facial gestures or body language to indicate an incorrect answer.
If your family does not have access to the Internet in your home or if you have only a dial-up connection, we will be arranging area testing in the Whittier, Santa Clarita and Ventura areas in mid-September to accommodate those students. Please let your ES know as soon as possible if you will need an alternative site for testing, so we can make appropriate plans.
