Driver's Education revised 5/29/07
Golden Valley Charter School will allow use of instructional funds to pay for Driver’s Education at licensed driver’s training programs in the state of California.
GVCS will no longer allow use of IF to pay for nor will we award credit for Driver's Training.
Students must sign up with an approved driving school in their area, in order to complete the requirements for Driver’s Education. Instructional funding may be used to pay for the course, if the driving school is on the school’s list of approved vendors.
DMV "Pink Slip" (Certification of Completion) Students must have a DMV Certificate of Completion ("pink slip") to take the driving test and be issued a driving license or learning permit to drive. This pink slip will be awarded to the student by the vendor, NOT by Golden Valley.
Course Name OptionsFor a course taken from an approved driving school (the driving school has issued a DMV pink slip to the student), the ES will use "Driver's Education" as the course title and describe the learning on the learning record. If the student wishes to study driver's education, but does not want a DMV pink slip, they may complete “Driver Safety & Awareness.” In this case, a DMV pink slip would not be awarded.
CreditsThe Driver's Education may be taken for 2.5 credits. Driver Safety & Awareness courses may be taken for up to 5 credits.
Approval of Driving SchoolsIf a student wants to use a vendor not presently on the approved vendor list, the ES should submit a Vendor Approval Request Form to the GVCS office.
Process for signing up students for Driver’s Education1. Parent or ES locates the local driving school offering the best combination of price and service and makes arrangements for the student to be served. 2. If necessary, the ES sends in a Vendor Approval Request Form to have the business added to the school’s approved vendor list. 3. The ES submits a PO to order the course. 4. The ES lists the course on the student’s High School Course Selections form. 5. The ES documents the activities engaged in and objectives learned on the student's learning record. 6. The ES may assign 2.5 credits for Driver’s Education.
