UC/CSU Minimum Requirements for Admissionrevised 8/6/07
a) History/Social Science – Two years required, including one year of world history, cultures, and geography and one year of US history or one-half year of US history and one-half year of civics or American government. Golden Valley currently offers the following ‘a’ courses: World History US History American Government World Geography b) English – Four years required. Golden Valley currently offers the following ‘b’ courses: English 9 English 10 English 11 English 12 c) Mathematics – Three years required of college preparatory mathematics that include the topics covered in elementary and advanced algebra and two- and three-dimensional geometry. (Four years recommended.) Golden Valley currently offers the following ‘c’ courses: Algebra 1 Algebra 2 Geometry d) Laboratory Science – Two years required. (Three years recommended.) Golden Valley no longer offers a home-based option for lab sciences. Lab science courses eligible to meet a-g requirements must be taken at a community college. e) Language Other Than English – Two years required of the same language. (Three years recommended.) Golden Valley no longer offers a home-based option for Language Other than English. Language Other than English courses eligible to meet a-g requirements must be taken at a community college. f) Visual & Performing Arts – One year required. Golden Valley currently offers the following ‘f’ courses: Visual Arts 1 Instrumental Music 1 g) College Preparatory Elective – In addition to those courses required in ‘a-f’ above, one year (two semesters) of college preparatory electives are required, chosen from advanced visual and performing arts, history, social science, English, advanced mathematics, laboratory science, and advanced language other than English. Golden Valley currently offers the following ‘g’ electives: American Government, one semester, may be used as ‘g’ elective if the full year of US History is used to meet the ‘a’ requirement. UC/CSU transferable courses at a community college in the above subjects may also be used to clear the a-g requirements. Check with the college or your ES to determine if a college course you are interested in taking will meet the a-g requirements.
