Learning and Attendance Documentationrevised 5/29/07
ESs, parents, and students must meet in-person at least once every 20-school attendance days to review and document the learning that occurs in each growth area. In addition to providing the ES with an opportunity to evaluate the student’s learning progress, these regular meetings provide an opportunity for the parent to ask questions, for the ES to share different teaching strategies and to offer support and encouragement, or for the assignment and evaluation of daily work. This time is also used to choose appropriate work samples to be given to the ES; one sample per subject, per month is to be collected. Parents must keep in mind that if the ES is responsible for assigning the tasks for daily instruction, the student must be capable of accomplishing the assigned tasks independently.
The main purposes of a completed learning record are: To document a student’s school attendance; To document a student’s progress towards his/her goals and objectives; To recognize and applaud the learning achievements of each student.
The documentation of the student’s progress towards the student standards is the main role of the ES. Currently, the learning records are sent into the GVCS office electronically via the school database, Teaams. Included on the learning record format is a listing of the student standards in each growth area. Prior to submitting the learning record in Teaams, the ES evaluates the learning by indicating the student standards in which progress has occurred during the learning period. Parents may request a copy of learning records for their children at any time.
Whether the student’s daily work is monitored by the parent or by the ES, the parent is responsible for marking each day as measurable learning progress on the official rollsheet. The parent is also responsible for recording one educational activity for each positive day of attendance, on the rollsheet. These hard copy rollsheets are issued and collected by the ES during the monthly meeting. If the student is sick or decides not to engage in the learning process on a school attendance day, the parent must record that day as an absence. Excessive absences may result in the development of intervention to improve the student’s attendance rate or may result in the student’s disenrollment from the school. These monthly meetings provide an opportunity for parents and students to ask for help from the ES. During this interview the parent can ask for suggestions about activities and resources with educational value. |
