Enrollment Information

revised 3/25/08

Thank you for your interest in Golden Valley Charter School. We are a public school operating with public educational funds. However, our charter school is structured quite differently from the traditional non-charter, classroom-based public school system. The primary goal of our charter school is to maximize learning opportunities for students, and to guarantee that our students can master the necessary skills to succeed in the workplace of today and tomorrow. Golden Valley Charter School allows for wide differences in student learning styles, abilities, and interests that are difficult to accommodate in a traditional classroom school setting. Unlike a traditional public school, parents tailor the learning environment to the individual needs of their children. Because of our school's unique system, a "one-size-fits-all" curriculum is not mandated, and parents remain the authority of any material affecting their children's attitudes, values, and beliefs. Through your individually assigned Education Specialist we provide training for our parents in curriculum choices, learning styles, computer literacy and other areas as needed.

To begin our enrollment process, please fill out the student application and return it to Golden Valley Charter School, 2421 Portola Rd., Suite C,  Ventura, CA., 93003 along with:

  • Copy of your child’s Birth Certificate

  • Copy of your child’s Immunization Record

  • If you would like an immunization waiver, print your child’s name on the front, sign the personal beliefs affidavit on the back, and send it in lieu of the immunization record.

  • Report  of Health Exam for School Entry, for entering K and 1st graders

  • Oral Health Assessment or Waiver of Oral Health Assessment Requirement Request Form, for entering K and 1st graders who have not been previously enrolled in public school

  • Copy of current IEP, Assessment Reports or Records Request Authorization form, if applicable, for special ed students

  • Copy of most recent transcript, for grades 9-12 only

High school students from non accredited schools/independent homeschool situations - Please refer to GVCS's Policy and Procedure for Recognition of High School Credits Awarded by a Non Accredited High School.

We will then assign your child to an Education Specialist (ES) as soon as one is available in your geographic area. Our Education Specialists are credentialed teachers who oversee each student's educational progress. The ES will contact you to set up a time to meet where he/she can explain the various educational options available for your child. At that time you will make the final decision as to whether you wish to enroll your child in our school. Please do not withdraw your child from his/her current school until you have met with your ES and are officially enrolled. If you have a child who is in Special Education, the Special Education Department will contact you before you are assigned to an ES.

At the beginning of each school semester, educational resource funds are allotted to an account managed by your ES on behalf of your child. Together, you and your ES determine how best to use these funds for your child's education. These funds may be used to provide curriculum, computers, and other learning tools for use while attending our school. They may also be used to facilitate a variety of educational alternatives for your child. Your ES will explain these different options to you. All provided materials are the property of Golden Valley Charter School, and must be returned to the school upon transfer out of our school.

Thank you again for your interest in our school, and we look forward to working with you to meet your child's educational needs.
