GVCS Field Trip 2007-2008 Vista Del Lago Visitor’s Center Tour
Golden Valley Charter School is sponsoring 5 field trips for the 2007-2008 school year. The third of these field trips will be to the Vista Del Lago Visitor’s Center, located in Gorman, CA, 16 miles North of Castaic overlooking Pyramid Lake. The tour will be approximately 1 ½ hours in duration. Students will start their tour with a visual display of how much water is used in everything we touch and eat. Students will weigh themselves and find out how much of their body is water. Next, they will watch a video presentation projected on a huge map of California. They will view how the state’s geography affects where water is and how it is transported to areas without abundant supplies. Lastly, students will explore the California State Water Project via a three-dimensional exhibit that displays its facilities from beginning to end, the distances between them, and the time it takes water to flow from one facility to another. Picture yourself at the bottom of the 444-mile-long California Aqueduct.
